for GW2 to run on linux and mac OSX natively, anet will have to create a second client using openGL. given what i've just said, that will largely be a waste of time and money. after all, why use twice the money to deliver two clients, when one of the clients will only be used by approximately 5% of the user base?

When a small company like s2games can manage it, arena.net surely should be able to.

ummm... you can't run GW on a virtualized platform, simply because virtualization does not support 3D graphics acceleration at all.

Virtualbox can:

GW2 is also 3 years into development, and from all indications (what little there are), GW2 is already at a playable alpha stage. it is now too late to convert to openGL.

Because 3D support is still experimental at this time, it is disabled by default and must be manually enabled in the VM settings (see the section called “General settings”).

looks like it is disabled.

I wouldn't be so certain, seeing as the beta of Warhammer Online for OS X came out today. I agree it's fairly unlikely, but I wouldn't rule anything out at this point.
We also don't know that they haven't developed GW2 from day 1 to be playable on both OpenGL and DirectX.
Another Bootcamp user here. I've tried Crossover, but wasn't comfortable with the performance difference from running it on it's native OS.

I've played Guild Wars on Ubuntu pretty easily with wine.
A good idea for mac users who can't play GW is to dual boot with Ubuntu, download wine, and run GW from that.
Thats if you don't want to touch windows. I would be running Ubuntu now if my computer was't so terrible for gaming already.
